Bathroom tile in Tripoli: which size and which finish?
For a bathroom floor choose porcelain with a slip-resistant matt finish; a large size works even in a small bathroom because it means fewer joints.
The short answer
Floor: matt porcelain, or one with a slightly rough surface, so your foot does not slip on water. Walls: gloss or matt, to taste. And a large size is not off-limits in a small bathroom; it often helps because there are fewer joints.
Matt or gloss?
Gloss reflects light and brings out colour, so it looks good on walls. But on a wet floor it gets slippery and shows water and limescale marks. Matt is calmer, less slippery and hides marks, so it suits the bathroom floor and the area near the shower best.
Slip on wet floors
When choosing floor tile, ask directly: is it slip resistant? Do not rely on looks alone, because some matt surfaces are still very smooth. If there are children or older people at home, this question matters more than colour.
Which size for the bathroom?
Every joint between tiles is a place for dirt and mould to collect. A large size, such as 60×120 on the wall, means fewer joints and makes a small bathroom look wider and cleaner. On a small floor there may be more cutting, so allow more waste and make sure your fitter has handled large formats before.
A tip on slope and drain
A bathroom floor needs a slight fall towards the drain so water does not stand. With a large tile the fall is harder to build, so agree the method with your fitter before you buy the quantity.
